It’s no secret I’m a fan of the early morning workout. It’s not for everyone, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.
PROS:
- The gym isn’t crowded
- Since time is limited I make the most of every second of my workout
- Only have to shower once a day
- My workout is over before I get a chance to think of a million excuses to blow it off
- I’m actually alert by the time I get to the office
- Forces me to drink water early and often
CONS:
- Getting out of bed
- Scraping the car windows when I could be sleeping
- Seriously, getting out of bed.
After months away from the morning workouts I’m re-incorporating them into my routine on Monday, and I have to say I’m kind of pumped about it. I’m sure I won’t be when the alarm goes off at 5:30 AM (yeah, ouch) but I miss feeling awake in the morning.
What’s helps you wake up in the morning? Coffee? Workouts? A hot shower? Screaming along to the radio on your way to the office?
When I did early morning workouts I would sleep in my gym clothes and try to blare some good music on my way to the gym. I always drink coffee in the morning too.
I was on Adipex for a year. Off for 2 months now and desperately trying lose more weight or at least maintain. In that time, I did pick up healthy eating habits and while I don’t necessarily love working out, it has become part of my spiritual program to move my body and eat foods as close to whole as possible.
That being said, Sugar-free Red Bull. Lots and lots of it. And an energy shot. Eventually I’ll phase it out as well, but I can fairly say I’m addicted at this point.
Don’t hate me, but I’m a morning person so getting up is not an issue. Getting off the computer and out of my pajamas, now that’s another story!
Are you going to the Bellevue Urban? How are you liking it versus the ghetto westside one?
I haven’t made it over yet but I’m headed over this weekend and I can’t wait! It’s soooo pretty!
Hey – I just joined the UA in Bellevue last week. I think early mornings will be the best time to work out there — I made the mistake of going post-work this week, and it is cah-row-ded. And it’s about a 10:1 ratio men to women, and while I’m not all Curves-y about no men around during workout, it’s been a little weird. So I’m switching to a morning routine too – good luck – maybe we’ll see one another one morning!
Awesome Sara! I’m totally with you on not liking the crazy crowded gym. Have you done any of the classes yet? If you see me there in the morning come say hi!
My phone alarm is always set to a good tune (currently, appropriately “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire), my iPod needs to be loaded and I need a good 15-30 minutes to sip my coffee and go online for a bit before I make it to the gym.
The pros DEFINITELY outweigh the cons! I will be starting my morning workouts again now that the holidays are approaching and I have too many PM commitments to fit everything in.
I’m definitely a “needs coffee to transform in to a human in the morning” kinda girl. When I was going to the gym I was all about the late night workout to avoid the crowds since there was no way under the sun that I would have been able to give my all that early in the AM.
I recently got myself on the early morning workout routine too, FB! I’m starting slow with two early am spin classes a week – but I have to say, now that I’m in the routine I actually don’t mind getting up before the sun! Knowing that the coffee is brewed and waiting for me when I get back from the gym also helps!
My main way to wake up is a nice hot shower. Even in the summer when it is hot outside, nothing beats that nice hot shower to get me focused and ready to start my day.
