FB’s Awesome House Of Awesome: Now With More Awesome

Hi Internet! I’ve missed you!

I am pleased thrilled to report that I am writing this post from the comfort of my yellow living room chair in my very own loft.  It’s been just over a week since I got the keys and I’m still not sick of talking about how it’s mine.  Miiiiiine. The other day I called my mom and said, “Hey know where I am? In my house.  It’s mine.  I’m not sure if you heard but I bought it and it’s mine and I own it.  ‘Cause I’m awesome like that.”  And then she hung up on me to make rum cakes.*

So! The loft!  It’s a work in progress but it’s mostly done.  I spent the first four days I was here painting the bathroom and Red Kitchen Wall of Doom (four coats of paint to cover that sucker, plus loads of swear words and hours spent dangling precariously from a ladder).  The movers came last Saturday with all of my stuff from Columbus and did a terrific job getting everything in quickly and in one piece (shout out to Sean and Shawn from Efficient Moving in Columbus!).  I helped as much as I could, but will admit I had to hide in the bathroom when they moved the piano in.  That was more than I could handle.

As of yesterday afternoon everything was in and all major purchases were delivered and inside the house.  Over the weekend I tracked down a microwave small enough to fit on one of my slivers of counterspace (surprisingly they don’t make a lot of 17-inch wide microwaves) and I finally got the flat screen TV working.  Things are coming together and it’s actually starting to feel like I live here.  It’s not home yet, but it’s getting there.  And as much as I liked the space and the neighborhood before, it’s winning me over more and more each day.  My neighbors in the building are super friendly and chatty.  Everyone seems to know everyone else, at least by name, and there’s a real sense of pride about the neighborhood.  Which is CRAZY considering it’s supposed to be the Most Dangerous Neighborhood in America.  But that’s a rant for another day; the point is I really love it here.  And okay, it was worth the wait.

I’ve got  my furniture and my stuff again and a bathroom all to myself every morning.  I’ve got a fridge stocked full of healthy food and little by little I’m starting to feel my energy and motivation to get healthy come back.

So yeah, no complaints here.  Life’s pretty good right now.

*Rum cakes that will be made with the KitchenAid mixer that I bought her as a surprise thank you gift for helping me out with all the house purchasing nightmare business.  Yep, nothing says Thanks for putting up with my needy complaining for months and for spending a decent chunk of your vacation time painting my bathroom like an expensive and highly coveted kitchen appliance.
