Friday night I was downtown for a concert at Fountain Square with my friends and ended up bumping into tons of people I haven’t seen in ages and staying up way later than I normally do. It was a blast but when I woke up Saturday morning I was ready for some of that FB time I mentioned early last week.
I ended up spending most of the day on my own and, even though it was a busy day, it was really, really relaxing. Since I was close to downtown I drove by the condo I want, just to check out what was going on in the neighborhood and whatnot. It was actually pretty quiet, and just driving buy got me re-energized about the whole buying-a-house thing. Yes, it’s a ton of work and it’s stressful and renting downtown would totally be easier, but I’m so excited to get into my little space and make it my own. And even though people think the neighborhood downtown is rough I fall in love with it more and more every time I’m there.
I stopped by my old hair salon just to see if my old stylist was still working there and was shocked to see her when I walked in the door. I haven’t seen her in nearly two years but she remembered me immediately and introduced me to a new stylist who had an opening. The three of us talked about my hair, what I liked and didn’t, how it’s usually cut and I walked out with an amazing cut for less than $30. Awesome, right?
I stopped by Starbucks and got an oil change, and then spent two hours in Target making a house warming wish list.* Even though I still haven’t made an offer on the condo (how do I love financing/down payment assistance red tape! Let me count the ways!) I have a very clear idea in my head of how I want it look. Mostly because I think about it all the time. I didn’t spend a dime but I had so much fun looking at kitchen stuff and towels and linens and whatnot. I got super excited about lame things like casserole dishes and washrags, and I don’t care who knows it.
Then I came home, put on my PJs even though it was only 3:30 p.m. and spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies and soaking up the air conditioning. Lame? Probably. But who cares?
All totaled I spent less than twelve hours on my own, but for me it might as well have been three days. I feel like I just woke up from an 18-hour nap, like I’m completely recharged and ready to go. I can’t believe I’m even going to type this because, jesus it’s so cliche, but I feel more me than I’ve felt in weeks.
*I got to use that little scanner gun thing which was highly entertaining to me. I had an odd sense of satisfaction each time I scanned a bar code and heard that little boop noise.
THAT is exactly the type of day that I consider perfect! Hope things go well with the condo offer!
Damn, girlie! That sounds like an amazing day! You got cute hair, Starbucks, PJs before 4pm AND the joy of using a scanner gun!
I want that day.
That sounds like a perfect alone day. I could easily lose 2 hours in Target and I would geek out about using the scanner device. I love lists! And gadgets! I redecorate my apartment or decorate the house I am not even close to owning all the time in my mind.
That sounds like an AWESOME day to me, especially the salon part!
I just read one of your book recommendations, In The Woods, yesterday. Thanks so much! It was really, really good!
What a lovely day and you didn’t even spend a lot of $$! I always feel much better when I have days like that and didn’t spend a lot, it makes me feel very virtuous and then I usually blow it by giving myself a prize for being so virtuous :{
I do love those scanner thingys!!
we all need that time sometimes don’t we? I’m glad you got a few moments to breathe and just be you! And PJ’s at 3:30 is not pathetic. It is AWESOME!
Discovered your blog while looking for other people that blogged about trying to lose weight., very entertaining reading material!
Started my first blog about a year ago, all about baking and cooking. Got a scare this morning as I stepped onto the scale, this made me decide to start loosing weight and start a blog on that subject.
Sounds like a great day to me! I hope you get some good news on your financing!
Omg, I love using the little scanner thing! I volunteer to go with all my friends when they are making registries.. Mostly because I love shopping, but I get to use the little scanner too!
What a lovely day! Time alone can do wonders for body & spirit!
Sounds like you had a fantastic day! I love those kinds of days just doing what you want, and need, to do without other distractions.
I love days like that – such freedom! Hope that good vibe stays with you through all the house red tape.
Sounds like a wonderful day and just what you needed. And I agree, PJs at 3:30 PM is definitely not pathetic.
That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day! We all need time alone!
